Group Songwriting Class
Whether you are in a band, have ever wanted to be, or would like to learn some basics about what being in an original band is like, Group Songwriting Class at Air House is a great opportunity to expand your creative skill-set and make you a more valuable collaborator. Making music can be plenty rewarding on one’s own, but there is an experience of creating that is only possible when two or more minds come together.
How do you bring your ideas to a group and communicate your vision, while also hearing and understanding the visions of others? What do you do when you disagree about how the chorus should go? Who’s responsible for lyrics? How do you come up with a band or artist name and how do you describe your music to people when they ask what your band sounds like? Where do you find inspiration and how do you make so many musical elements fit together? These are the kinds of topics that will be discussed and answered in addition to basic theory and techniques for writing chords, melodies, and lyrics.
Classes will be two hours long and consist of lectures at the beginning, followed by time to collaborate with classmates and create songs. The creative time will be free-form with guidance. Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments, and will have the opportunity to play a variety of other instruments as well. Within the two months, the class will have a set of entirely original music written and performance-ready.
The Group Songwriting Class is taught by Air House teacher and experienced songwriter/producer William Bloomquist.
