Montessori Piano (ages 3-6)

Through hands-on learning, listening, and music making, Montessori Piano seeks to lay a foundation and establish habits that will serve a child in all aspects of life, especially in the appreciation, study, and love of music and the arts.

Upon entering the Montessori Piano studio, 3-6 year-old children will feel the joy and freedom of learning in a space that has been especially designed for them. Under the supervision of trained Montessori guide Charisse Tierney, children will be shown how different materials can help them learn about music making, piano playing, and care of self and the studio space.

A typical class session will include listening to music, singing, time for independent work with a variety of materials, one on one time with Charisse at the piano, and masterclass time when students may choose to share or perform something they learned in class that day.

Benefits of learning in the Montessori environment include nurturing the habits of attention and concentration, practicing self discipline and independence, and learning grace and courtesy toward others. Enjoying the freedom to choose what they would like to focus on in each session allows children to concentrate more deeply on a point of genuine interest and learn and retain more thoroughly. Gentle guidance given by Charisse when children are developmentally ready ensures a personalized learning experience for each individual child that will lead seamlessly into private piano lessons as the child is ready.

Most importantly, the habits, self control, ability to learn independently, and appreciation for beauty and the arts are all fruits of Montessori Piano that will become a part of the students for the rest of their lives. Montessori Piano is truly an oasis from the rest of the world where every child will feel respected, appreciated, and seen.
